Webinar 8 October – NbS and Health: Understanding the effects

Nature-based solutions (NbS) are becoming increasingly integrated into European and local climate policies — but how do they impact human health?

🗓 8 October 2025 | 🕒 14:00–15:30 CET
📍 Teams online | Hosted by COST Action LILY – organisation support by Three o’clock

As NbS increasingly enter into policy at the European and local levels and are widely implemented, there is an urgent need for the adoption of evidence-based approaches to their design, implementation and evaluation that account for NBS impacts on health and well-being. In doing so, we can mitigate any occurrences of inconsistency, maladaptation, or mislabeling. This need must be met with evidence-driven guidelines on what is required to ensure the realisation of health-related co-benefits and minimising negative unintended consequences.

LILY is dedicated to finding solutions to current gaps and challenges in the state of the art of NbS-Health. This webinar is a platform to exchange approaches in generating scientific evidence on the impacts of NbS on health, health-related outcomes, and well-being.

This webinar will provide a space to:
🌱 Discuss both the positive and negative health impacts of different NbS
🔬 Share methodological approaches and challenges in researching these effects
📊 Explore potential indicators for tracking health outcomes

Speakers:

  • Frauke Ecke – Professor of Ecology, University of Helsinki
  • Reina Sikkema – Public Health Veterinarian & Researcher, Erasmus Medical Center
  • Perlie Velasco – Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, University of the Philippines Los Baños
  • Tadhg MacIntyre – Innovation Value Institute, Maynooth University
  • Jeroen van de Water – Microbial Ecologist, Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research
